Abstract

The article considers the issues of adaptation of industrial buildings and structures into multifunctional spaces of modern cities, adaptation methods. A study of the adaptation of industrial buildings in the city of Izhevsk was conducted. There are three main methods of change: preservation of the industrial function, partial refunctionalization and complete refunctionalization. The choice of method depends on the historical value, technical condition, territory analysis and other factors. Adaptation includes restoration, renovation, reconstruction and redevelopment. Redevelopment optimizes the functionality of the territory taking into account economic, social and environmental aspects. In Izhevsk, an example of adaptation are the former industrial buildings of the Izhevsk Arms Plant, the Izhevsk Motorcycle Plant, the gear and bearing plants. Unused production areas are converted to suit various needs of the city: offices, shops and supermarkets, food, industrial and construction goods sales departments, restaurants and cafes, ateliers, dental clinics, etc. The liberated territories are given over to the construction of new shopping centers. Based on the results of the competition, the main building of the Izhevsk Arms Factory and its adjacent territories will be rebuilt into a multifunctional cultural center.
